Prof. Orla Feely,
Vice President for Research, Innovation and Impact Research Administration,
University College Dublin.
I am delighted to welcome the Irish Signals and Systems Conference 2023 to University College Dublin. I recall the very early days of this conference, and it is wonderful to see how it has gone from strength to strength and is now in its 34th year.
The development of ISSC has reflected and indeed supported other important developments over this time, including a step change in the scale and collaborative nature of research in relevant areas nationally, strong growth in international research linkages in this space, and significant advances in the ICT sector in Ireland.
Most of all, it is great to see how the people who have participated in the conference over the years, many of them early-career researchers making their first conference presentation, have gone on to carve out fulfilling careers and establish themselves as important contributors to the field. Recognising this, I am delighted to see that UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is making available small travel grants for young professionals in order to encourage participation and advance inclusion.
I look forward to an excellent programme at ISSC 2023 reflecting the strength and diversity of research in signals and systems, and to a vibrant and engaging event that will support the exchange of ideas and the building of networks. It will be a pleasure to welcome you to UCD in person in June.
